The fab of Japanese emoticons!

So you are in Japan, and you got yourself a nice Japanese Keitai or a very fancy Smartphone,

like iPhone or one with Android OS, and you start chatting with any Japanese friend, colleague or significant other, and all of sudden you start receiving lots of seemingly random characters, which you can not recognize and you are wondering What is this!!? what does this mean?

After a few minutes you start recognizing the pattern, it’s not random!, it looks like a face and it’s trying to replicate the sender’s feeling or emotions! for being happy ヾ(@^▽^@)ノ, sad (´;ω;`), upset o(-`д´- 。), confused (゜_゜>) etc. Also they might try to send winks (^_-)-☆, they might try to even apologize like Japanese Style m(_ _)m.

There are probably dozens if not hundreds of emoticons designs, but most of them are quite similar in meaning, and is already included within the software of your Japanese cellphone or smartphone, so it could be reached within few taps of your keyboard.

Check out a list of Japanese Emoticons for every occasion
