- どこですか。Doko desu ka? Where is it?
- 〜は どこですか。~wa doko desu ka? Where is ~ ?
- すみません、〜はどこですか。
Sumimasen, 〜wa doko desu ka? Excuse me, where is ~ ? - スーパー suupaa supermarket
- こうばん kooban police box
- えき eki station
- ゆうびんきょく yuubinkyoku post office
- こうえん kooen park
- ぎんこう ginkoo bank
- 〜へは どうやって いきますか。~ e wa dooyatte ikimasu ka? How do I get to ~ ?

Asking direction and its sample answers
- Q: すみません、〜はどこですか Sumimasen, ~ wa doko desu ka? Excuse me, where is ~?
- まっすぐ いってください massug itte kudasai. Please go straight.
- このみちを まっすぐいってください kono michi o massugu itte kudasai. Please go straight this road.
- この道を まっすぐいって、みぎです。 Kono michi o massugu itte, migi desu. Go straight this road, then it’s on the right.
- この道を まっすぐいって、ひだりです。Kono michi o massugu itte, hidari desu. Go straight this road, then it’s on the left.
- つぎの しんごうの かどです。Tsugi no shingoo no kado desu. It’s at the corner of the next traffic light.
- つぎの こうさてんの かどです。Tsugi no koosaten no kado desu.It’s at the corner of the next junction
- えきの まえです。 Eki no mae desu. It’s in front of the station
- スーパーのうしろです。Suupaa no ushiro desu. It’s behind the supermarket.

- ひとつめ hitotsu-me 1st.
- ふたつめ futatsu-me 2nd.
- みっつめ mittu-me 3rd.
- よっつめ yottu-me 4th.
- まがります magarimasu turn
- まがって magatte turn, then..
e.g. ふたつめの しんごうを みぎへまがって まっすぐいくと、ひだりにあります。
futatsu-me no shingoo o migi e magatte massugu iku to, hidari ni arimasu.
If you turn right at the 2nd traffic light and go straight, then it’s on the left.
